Welp. Time for my annual post on the Pooh Misquoted website. Here's one I see around a bit: "The things that make me different are the things that make me me." You can download this as wallpaper for your computer, as a wall decal (make sure your babies know they are different), as art decor for your BFF, or as a text-heavy pencil skirt. Occasionally this quote is attributed to A. A. Milne and occasional to Winnie the Pooh. Here's a tattoo website this quote is attributed to A. A. Milne and Disney AND Peter Pan AAAAAAND Tinker Bell. Make sure you cover your bases!
This quote reminds me of that scene in Monty Python's "Life of Brian", where Brian tries to tell a crowd of unwanted followers that they should stop following him as the Messiah because, as Brian puts it "You are all different", to which the crowd chants back "Yes, we are all different!" Except that one guy at the front who says in a quiet voice, "I'm not."
What makes me different is that I check my sources. So is this a Pooh quote? Well, this is one where the answer is "yes and no". The actual quote is first sung by Piglet (not Pooh) in the straight-to-DVD classic "Sing a Song with Pooh Bear" (1999). Harry Arends is listed as the Producer/Writer/Director of this DVD, so this make Harry Arends the author of this quote. It is definitely not an A. A. Milne quote.

Incidentally, the song Piglet sings in this 1999 DVD is the "One and Only One" song, which actually first appeared in the "Piglet Pride" episode of a nightmare-inducing 1983 children's TV show "Welcome to Pooh Corner". (Aside: Why doesn't San Francisco host Piglet Pride Parades anymore?) However, this version of the song (and the earlier one in the same episode sung by Tigger) doesn't actually feature the quote: "The things that make me different are the things that make me me". For comparison, here's the clip from this version of the song. But, just as a warning, don't watch this after midnight or Piglet comes out from behind a curtain and stabs you.
